Celebrating 60 Years of The Rolex President
A Classic Watch Still A Leader Among Buyers
Village Watch Center buys used Rolex watches and sells Rolex watches with pride. With all our years of Rolex watch maintenance, we can tell you what watch owners have known for a long time: The Rolex Day-Date 'President' has been a leader in style and a favorite design of watch collectors and Rolex owners for the entire 60 years of its run.
Village Watch Center of Boston wants to take a moment celebrate this great brand and design on its 60th anniversary.
An interesting history...
The Rolex Day-Date 40 60th Anniversary watch with green dial hands-on is a great addition to this prestigious line lovingly referred to as the “President.” This name goes back to Dwight D Eisenhower who was given one as a gift. There was some dispute by historians whether the five star general turned President actually wore the watch thereby spawning the name. Since then, a number of pictures have surfaced with Eisenhower indeed wearing this very watch. What was not in dispute is that many presidents have worn Rolexes including Roosevelt, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, and Reagan. The “president” name is well earned.
This watch was one of the first to include the date in a separate easy set window at the 3 position. This seems common to watch buyers now, but it was one of many innovations at the time 60 years ago.
