Compare Rolex Submariner, Omega Seamaster, Breitling Superocean
Before you buy a watch you want to make sure that it meets three important requirements:
- The watch must look great
- The watch must be well built
- The watch must be reasonably priced for what it offers
Rolex Submariner
The Look
The Sub is a true classic. You can’t go wrong buying this watch. The Submariner comes in a wide variety of metals and dial colors.
The Build
The Sub is equipped with a superb in-house movement, an extremely solid feel and one of the most comfortable bracelets. The watch initially gained popularity among divers because of its drabioity and quality, and it remains popular today because Rolex continued to keep such a high standard in the production of the Sub. This watch can be worn for over 40+ years, be passed down through the family and with minor maintenance, it will continue to run fantastically.
The Price
When you hear Rolex there’s immediate alarm because it means high prices. Rolex has developed into the most valuable brands in the world, and they charge a hefty premium to those that can wear it on their wrist. A new Sub will cost at least $6,000 and upwards of $30,000 once gold and diamonds get involved. Our suggestion is to buy the watch used. Omega Seamaster
The Look
The Seamaster is beautiful. Basically Omega took the basic look of Rolex’s Submariner and actually made it better. The dial catches the light at all angles because of what Omega calls the “wave motif”. The bracelet is much more sporty than the Rolex or the Breitling, but can still be worn with just about anything.
The Build
The Seamaster has a great in-house movement. It feels great on your wrist. I will still lean toward the Submariner when comparing overall quality. The quality of the Sub has proven itself for over 50 years.
The Price

Breitling Superocean
The Look
Breitling has done it again; they took a classy watch and made it flashy. It also comes in many colors and styles, so if you like variety than you might want to take a look at this watch.
The Build
The movement of the Superocean is durable, and it does hold over time, but the feel of the watch is not comparable to the Rolex or the Omega. The bezel feels too loose, the bracelet a bit too uncomfortable.
The Price
The watch will go more than $1,000 but I would recommend stretching into your pocket and going with either the Rolex or the Omega for an overall better timepiece.
The Verdict
We love both the Rolex and the Omega… BUT, I do believe that the Rolex Submariner is truly the best watch of the two. It is a true classic. It has the rare ability to take any look to a new level for many years to come.
